Review:

This is the first book of a series, but it can be read as a stand-alone as the other books will be about other characters.

After I read a few reviews on goodreads about this book, I was eager to read it. So, I used my 1-click skill and I curled on my couch with my iPad and my kindle app ready.

The first chapter was a little long and I was almost bored. I think it’s because I’m more used to opening chapters that are less descriptive and that show more than they simply tell to settle the main character into the story.

Though, just before I felt bored and disappointed, Asher made his big entrance and… Holly Hell! I think he’s my new book boyfriend of the week. It’s always fun when the male lead character comes across as a jerk at first. It made me chuckled a few times. 🙂

“I’m sure she likes me but not so sure she would like me ruining the chances of her having great grandchildren when I ‘accidently’ kick him in the nuts.”

But while many scenes and dialogues bring a light touch to this story, there’s also a few things that make me connect with the main character, November. (By the way I love the name.) Though, I think that the author could have explored it more, because what her mother did to her is more explained than showed and I really had to make an effort to imagine how much it must have been painful instead of feeling how painful it was. Maybe, it would have been great to see how November is still scarred from this instead of almost forgetting about it halfway through. But I’m being picky here.

“It took me a long time to realize that what she has drilled into my head wasn’t true but those wounds are still there and they run so deep that there are times I can still feel them inside me.”

The relationship between November and Asher is a perfect mix of fun moments, sweet and swoon-worthy things topped with hot scenes and it makes it very entertaining to follow. I was rooting for them right away even if I would have loved the chase to be a little longer.

Asher is the perfect alpha male that you’d love to have with his kind heart and protectiveness. I’m sure he’s already on many book boyfriends lists. And just so you know, he’s got many brothers… *sigh*

“I realized yesterday that I needed to stake my claim before some stupid fuck got to you. That’s why I did what you called ‘kidnapping’. I like to call that ‘securing my future’.”

But even if I loved reading this book and had a wonderful time with these characters and that I can’t wait for Trevor’s story, a few things are keeping me from rating Until November 5 stars.

First, I think that the big ‘mystery’ could have been more thrilling if more included into the story. It feels too much like the good excuse to bring Asher and November closer at first. I wasn’t freaking out all that much for her and I think that it should have been more important.

Also, the ending is coming too fast without being developped. I’m not going to tell you what I’m writing about or else it would ruin it for you, but it comes and is over too fast without enough of an explanation which means that I couldn’t be afraid long enough to be ready to jump to the end of the novel and see how it is solved and if it is solved.

And the last thing that made it a little difficult for me was the way we jump a few weeks without a transition. I don’t like it when it happens in books, but maybe it’s just me.

But just to meet Asher, you should buy and read this book. Don’t think twice if you like this genre of books. You’ll love it. 🙂

“It’s amazing,” he whispered, “to know that my purpose in life is sitting in front of me.” His hands moved to hold my face.

About the Author:

RJ was born in the UK and lived there until she was 21 and newly graduated with a degree in Linguistics and Phonetics. The relocation to Sweden was an easy choice having visited for the first time when she was 17. In her free time, RJ can be found with an impossibly large cup of tea and her nose in a book or fingers wrapped around a crochet hook and a tangled ball of yarn. RJ Sable is a pen name, although it’s not that far off her real name. The choice to use a pen name was based mostly on the fact that her real name is far too long. ‘Right There with You’ was RJ’s first book and a real adventure to write. Jamie-Lea was the name of RJ’s imaginary friend as a child, mainly because Dairylea cream cheese was considered a major food group to mini-RJ. If they sold it in Sweden, her fridge would be full of it.

Review:

When I found out that this book was free on amazon for a few days, I decided to download it and give it a try. I saw several mixed reviews, some raving, some not and I was quite eager to read it. In the end, I have a hard time rating it. I’m still not sure if 3 stars is appropriate.

The writing itself is good, perfect for this genre. It flows quite well, is descriptive enough when needed and yet not too much to not slow down the dialogues. That can be quite tricky and yet, the author did good.

But, because there’s always a but, I can’t rate it more than 3 stars. It’s not a bad book, it’s quite well written even if there are a few typos, but the story itself and the main character don’t do it for me. Don’t get me wrong, I will read the other books in the series because I’m curious and I want to know where it’s going, but there’re too many things bothering me to rate it four or five stars.

For one, I couldn’t relate much with the main character, Jamie-Lea. I think that at some point, even if I am aware how complicated it is for her to acknowledge her abuse, I don’t understand her and the way she acted throughout the book with her brothers. I guess it was too much for me without enough consequences on her and her psyche. It could have been edgier and I think it would have been for the best.

I also miss something in the Carter family dynamic. It feels too unbelievable at times. I’m pretty sure that it could have been more developped and then I would have been head over heels with this story. Maybe it’s not developped fully because it’s a first installment of a three book series, but still, I couldn’t understand the whole thing. Not to this extent, at least. Is it because I want the Carter brothers more characterized to really “see” how and why they are the way they are? I will probably be able to answer that once I read the sequel.

Jason is a great male lead character, he brings the swoon-worthy and very hot side to this story that would have been, otherwise, a miss. The author did great for us to love him right away. I pitied him several times, though. The Carter brothers made him suffer!

It’s a good book, but since I couldn’t relate to the main character and wasn’t fully engrossed in the book, I was a little disappointed. I already have the sequel on my kindle app, so I will read it soon. Fingers crossed that it redeemed it to me.

One thing is sure, I will read more from this author.

Who read this one? Who added to their tbr? Let me know What you think about Jason! Hot Stuff or not? 😉
